Linebacker Bobby Wagner plans to suit up for a second season with the Washington Commanders. He agreed to forego free agency to sign a one-year deal to remain with the Commanders, according to multiple reports.

The contract is reportedly worth $9.5 million.

The 11-time All-Pro became a quick locker-room favorite, developing a brotherly relationship with quarterback Jayden Daniels during their first season together in Washington.

Wagner, 34, continued to produce as a defensive leader. He was named to the Pro Bowl after starting every game for the Commanders, recording 132 tackles and two sacks and calling plays in the defensive huddle.

Kicker Zane Gonzalez also signed a new one-year contract with the Commanders on Thursday. The journeyman was a midseason replacement, converting 12 of 15 field goals between the regular season and playoffs.

Gonzalez solidified himself in Washington football lore with a game-winning field goal during the playoff win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His 37-yard kick doinked off the goal post and through the uprights as time expired, giving the Commanders their first playoff win in 19 years.

Wagner and Gonzalez are back, but the Commanders still have more than two dozen pending free agents who hit the market next week. The NFL’s legal tampering period, which allows players without contracts to negotiate with any team, begins on Monday.
