China says Russia ties a 'constant in a turbulent world', says Ukraine tragedy avoidable

Beijing - Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi on March 7 said ties with Russia were a “constant in a turbulent world” as he addressed a press conference in Beijing.

“A mature, resilient, and stable China-Russia relationship will not change due to temporary events, nor will it be disrupted by third-party interference,” he said.

On the Ukraine war, Mr Wang said China hopes for a “fair, lasting and binding peace agreement” acceptable to all parties, warning “conflict has no winners, and peace has no losers”.

“Everyone hopes to achieve a fair, lasting, binding peace agreement that every side can accept,” Mr Wang told reporters during the annual press conference on the sidelines of the annual parliamentary sessions.

“China is willing to cooperate with the international community in accordance with the wishes of relevant parties to achieve a final resolution of the crisis and lasting peace, and will continue to play a constructive role,” he said, adding that the tragedy could have been avoided. AFP
