Commencement of Intergovernmental Negotiations for a Social Security Agreement between Japan and Norway

Post

Japanese

The Government of Japan and the Government of the Kingdom of Norway will commence intergovernmental negotiations for the conclusion of a Social Security Agreement between Japan and Norway.

Employees sent from Japan to Norway as well as those sent from Norway to Japan are currently obliged to affiliate themselves to the social security systems of both countries thus causing duplicate payments of social security contribution which impose a significant economic burden on individuals and corporations. It is expected that the conclusion of an agreement between Japan and Norway on social security will solve such problem through the reduction of burden on the individuals and corporations, and further promote human and economic exchanges between the two countries.

The first round of intergovernmental negotiations will start from March 10, 2025.
