Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich has agreed on a deal to stay at the club till 2029, according to Florian Plettenberg.
Kimmich was in the final year of his contract with the Bavarian club, and there were genuine fears he would leave, but he has agreed to continue his journey with Die Rekordmeister.
The contract has been ratified by the Bayern board. He will sign on the dotted line and announce it this week.
Bayern and Kimmich have been going back and forth over this new deal for some time. There were reports the club tried to lower his salary and others that he wanted an increase. All in all, it didn’t look pretty.
The renewal news comes as a blow to Kimmich admirers like Arsenal, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool, and Real Madrid. These European heavyweights were linked with the German international but will be left empty-handed.
Arsenal will feel particularly heartbroken. They reportedly had a concrete interest in his services.
Kimmich would have been a fine addition to an Arsenal side set to lose Thomas Partey this summer. The former RB Leipzig maestro would give the Gunners a competitive edge, winning experience, and immense technical quality.
Kimmich would not look amiss in a Real Madrid midfield that lacks a controller or at Liverpool under Arne Slot, but he always had his heart set on a Bayern stay, and they have tied him down to a new deal.
It remains to be seen if Bayern will also make one final push to keep Leroy Sane at the club. He also becomes a free agent this summer, and it is unclear what the club or Sane has in mind.

His tenure at the club has been underwhelming, but there are not many wingers in the market better than him on his day. However, the club might decide to let the inconsistent 29-year-old walk away.
Bayern are also reportedly preparing new deals for Kim-min Jae and Dayot Upamecano after tying left-back Alphonso Davies to a new contract.
