Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain this week will be one fans of the Reds will not forget anytime soon.
Arne Slot’s men have been magnificent throughout the 2024/25 campaign but were outplayed throughout the contest in Paris.
Somehow, Liverpool came away with a 1-0 after Harvey Elliott and Darwin Nunez combined late on in the game, but Alisson Becker was the star of the show.
Goalkeeping legend Peter Schmeichel believes Alisson’s performance was “one of the best goalkeeping displays” he had ever seen in his life and as a result, the tie is in Liverpool’s hands ahead of the return leg at Anfield on Tuesday.
While watching the game, Match of the Day pundits Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker noticed something early on and a text the former Newcastle star would send would come true.

The ‘crazy’ text Alan Shearer sent to Gary Lineker during PSG vs Liverpool
Liverpool’s first-half display against PSG was arguably their worst of the season as the Premier League leaders were completely dominated by Luis Enrique’s men.
Steve McManaman and Rio Ferdinand were full of praise for Alisson at the break, but Shearer had a feeling the Reds would go on to win the game.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football, the Newcastle legend stated that he texted Lineker that Liverpool would get one chance to win it, which is how the contest played out.

“I text you after 20/25 minutes, I said Liverpool will have one chance and they will win this game. It is crazy how they won it,” Shearer said.
To which Lineker responded: “We all said the same thing, if they can hang on until halftime somehow, they will probably end up winning the thing. The statistics just before they scored were astonishing.”
The Match of the Day crew would also discuss another big talking point from the Champions League contest, with Lineker sharing the views of many.
Gary Lineker explains why Ibrahima Konate was not sent off against PSG
One big talking point from Liverpool’s clash with PSG was whether Ibrahima Konate should have been sent off in the first half after pushing Bradley Barcola in the back while the winger was through on goal.
That decision would have changed the whole complexion of the match and Ferdinand was adamant Konate should have seen red.
This is a view Lineker shares, the Match of the Day pundit admitted on The Rest Is Football, but he also explains why he thinks the referee came to his decision.
“I think it was. I think it was one of those that if the referee had given it, they would have definitely stuck with the decision on the pitch,” Lineker said.
“I suspect they were sitting there and were like ‘it’s a foul, but is it enough of a foul’. I think it was enough for a penalty, I think we all did. It brings me back to this point, this will never be sorted out under this thing on whether the bar is low or high.”
The former Tottenham striker went on to say that this is the type of luck you need to win a competition like the Champions League and Liverpool fans will be hoping this is the case come the end of the season.
