Deli Boys is a show about two Pakistani brothers, but Tan France says it’s not just for brown people

Tan France is vowing _Deli Boys_ will be your next binge-watch.

Taking to his Instagram, France, who plays Zubair in his first-ever scripted television role on the show, shared his thoughts on the _Hulu_ comedy-drama created by Abdullah Saeed. The show is about two Pakistani-American brothers.

Announcing that the show is now available to stream on _Hulu_ and _Disney+,_ he said “I can’t wait for you to see it, I’m so proud!” Disclaimer: France will only be in one episode of the show but he has guaranteed the lead cast is exceptionally good and the show is promising.

“It’s funny, it’s light-hearted, but also very violent — in the very best way,” says France. “I know that this is gonna be your new binge.”

For those calling _Deli Boys_ a “brown show for brown people,” France clarified that that wasn’t quite the case. “It ain’t! Listen, if I could relate to white shows my entire life, you can relate to this show. It’s for everyone!”

France urged everyone to watch it and spread the word. “We need more diversity in television. We need to see stories like this, and so, we need people to watch it and talk about it — otherwise, we don’t get shows like this,” he said.

Rife with humour, Deli Boys introduces two pampered Pakistani-American brothers Mir and Raj — played by Asif Ali and Saagar Shaikh — who find themselves facing tax evasion, cocaine smuggling and absurd family dynamics.

The logline for _Deli Boys_ reads, “When their convenience store-magnate father suddenly dies, a pair of pampered Pakistani-American brothers lose everything and are forced to reckon with their Baba’s secret life of crime as they attempt to take up his mantle in the underworld.”

France’s character is the leader of a rival cocaine gang who arrives from London in search of his missing cousin.

Speaking to _[Entertainment Weekly](https://ew.com/tan-france-hid-injury-queer-eye-set-deli-boys-cameo-11688094)_, France, floored by the show featuring so many multidimensional South Asian characters, said, “It gives a window into our world. Not the mob boss world, just the fully formed characters — that we are funny, dramatic, angry, that we are full people. I’d never seen anything like that done before. They sent me an outline of the show and I was like, this is wild that somebody’s brazen enough to do this. Our shows don’t get picked up like this. I was really proud.”

The show also features Poorna Jagannathan, Alfie Fuller and Brian George.

France is best known for starring as one of the “Fab Five” in Netflix’s popular unscripted makeover series _Queer Eye_, in which he serves as the fashion expert.

He also cohosts Netflix’s design competition series _Next in Fashion_ with Gigi Hadid. Previously, France has hosted the UK relaunch of _Say Yes to the Dress_, Netflix’s SAG Awards Pre-Show and more.
