Number of injured rises to 29 after S.Korean fighter jets accidentally bomb village

**ISTANBUL**

South Korea on Friday raised the injured tally to 29 after two of its military fighter jets on a military drill accidentally dropped eight bombs in a village.

Two KF-16 fighter jets "abnormally" dropped eight MK-82 bombs on Thursday outside the designated training range in Pocheon, some 40 kilometers (25 miles) north of the capital Seoul, said the country’s Defense Ministry, according to Seoul-based Yonhap News.

The bombing left 15 civilians and 14 service members injured, with two civilians seriously hurt in the northern village of Nogok-ri.

The Bangkok Post reported that four of the injured civilians are Thai nationals, according to their Foreign Ministry, although Seoul has yet to confirm their nationalities.

Soldiers were reportedly hurt when three of the bombs landed inside a nearby army base.

Acting Defense Minister Kim Seon-ho apologized for the incident, pledging to make every effort to restore the damaged property and provide compensation.

"Through a thorough investigation, (we) will clearly determine the cause of the accident and will thoroughly come up with necessary measures to prevent such accidents," he said in a statement.

US Forces Korea also announced Friday they will suspend all live-fire training following the deadly incident.

The incident marked the first accidental bombing by South Korean fighter jets to result in injuries.

Authorities have also set up a temporary committee to support recovery efforts in the village.
