Liverpool scouts have been impressed with Club Brugge defender Joel Ordonez
Arne Slot oversaw two quiet transfer windows since becoming the Liverpool boss last year. Despite the acquisition of just one outfield player in Federico Chiesa, who has barely made an impact, the Merseyside outfit currently enjoy a 13-point lead at the summit of the Premier League.
Come summer, changes are likely to be made in Arne Slot’s squad. Reinforcing the defensive unit has to be one of the priorities before the 2025/26 season commences. This is because Virgil van Dijk is into the final months of his contract and hasn’t yet agreed on an extension. Joe Gomez is currently out injured, while Ibrahima Konate—set to enter the final year of his contract at the end of June—is attracting interest from Real Madrid.

Now, according to an exclusive report from The Daily Mail, Club Brugge defender Joel Ordonez have caught the attention of Liverpool scouts with his consistent performances in the Champions League this season. The Reds are among several Premier League clubs monitoring the young centre-back, alongside Aston Villa and Everton.
Joel Ordonez has seen his stock soar since joining Club Brugge from Club NXT in July 2023. He has gone from strength to strength in the last 18 months, showing his quality and potential at the biggest stages of Champions League football. The Ecuador international has helped Club Brugge qualify for the Champions League Round of 16, having made 11 appearances in the competition and played every minute this season.
The 20-year-old’s breakout season in Brugge colours have placed him on Liverpool’s defensive wishlist. Ordonez, highly regarded across the European continent, has the required qualities to thrive in Slot’s system at Anfield. Primarily a centre-back, the youngster can also operate at right-back when required. Such players with versatile nature are often valuable to the squad, and Slot would be enticed to have him in his roster.

The South American would be a good option to bolster Liverpool’s defensive ranks whilst competing with the likes of Jarrell Quansah, Konate and Gomez next season. Replacing Van Dijk would be a big ask for the Liverpool chiefs, but Ordonez is a talent with great potential who can turn out to be a long-term successor for the hugely experienced Dutchman.
With plenty of clubs scouting and vying for his signature, Liverpool must start laying the brickwork from now on if they intend to sign Ordonez from Brugge this summer.
