Rangers are finally set for heavy investment from the 49ers Enterprises at Ibrox after fresh takeover developments.

The American group with Andrew Cavenagh, whose stable of clubs already includes Leeds United, are set to come on board at Ibrox, having agreed a deal to buy a 51 per cent stake of Rangers.

Paraag Marathe has been the driving force behind takeover negotiations with the current Ibrox hierarchy amid talks stretching back to October, and a new era beckons for the Light Blues from June onwards.

Rangers are therefore set for a summer of significant change across all levels at Ibrox, with plenty of changes expected in the playing squad, and a new manager at the top of the priority list.

Rangers to ‘come back’ under 49ers in new Alan Brazil verdict

It remains to be seen how long it takes the 49ers to re-rail Rangers from their current, dysfunctional state at every seemingly every level, but given their current situation, it’s not going to be a job done overnight.

Alan Brazil, however, despite being an ardent Celtic fan who can never resist the opportunity to take a dig at Rangers, expects the 49ers Enterprises to lead the Gers into a new era with plenty of clearout changes at the top.

Speaking on talkSPORT (6 March, 6:53am) Brazil: “The new people coming in, if this deal goes through; the San Francisco 49ers’ owners, they own part of Leeds United, are putting money into Rangers.

“They’re going to clear the board, clear the can of worms out and put their own people in, and there’ll be a big investment.

“So Rangers will come back, it just depends when.”

49ers Enterprises have to tackle ‘can of worms’ at Rangers

Although Brazil has expressed his desire for Celtic to beat Rangers to the appointment of Jose Mourinho, he still wants to see the Old Firm go toe-to-toe again.

Rangers, however, have been stuck in their current ways for far too long, with a dysfunctional boardroom prone to infighting and seeing spats between Dave King and John Gilligan spill over this season.

With Philippe Clement sacked following a woeful spell of domestic form and Barry Ferguson in interim charge, Rangers have fallen 16 points behind their arch-rivals Celtic in the Premiership title race.

The Americans purchasing a 51 per cent stake does give them overall control, and despite several of Rangers’ long-term shareholders looking set to sell up, plenty will be staying put for the time being.

Clearing out that “can of worms” in the Ibrox boardroom will be crucial to 49ers Enterprises and Cavenagh taking Rangers forward, but if they can turn the ship around, a glorious new dawn is ahead.
