Rasmus Hojlund was left furious by Diogo Dalot
Rasmus Hojlund was left so angry by Diogo Dalot that Ruben Amorim had to intervene after Thursday’s Europa League draw with Real Sociedad.
Manchester United took on the Spanish side in midweek, battling to a 1-1 draw after a strike from Joshua Zirkzee and Mikel Oyarzabal’s penalty. It was another performance where Amorim’s side struggled for form in attack.
But they actually had a golden chance to score a rare first-half goal as Diogo Dalot was released down the right flank. Team-mate Hojlund was free in the middle but the Portuguese defender elected not to cross the ball, instead biding his time for more support.
Sociedad eventually got bodies back, with the move petering out with a shot from Kobbie Mainoo that ballooned over the crossbar. And Hojlund was far from happy as he berated Dalot for his failure to cross.

It appears the fall-out was so severe that Amorim was forced to call-out his rowing teammates in his post-match assessment. He said: “I’m just imagining Diogo didn’t know for sure that Rasmus had the advantage and he felt that he had a lot of time to think of the play.
“It was a clear position, Rasmus did really well, Dalot did really well, but the decision was not the best. The important thing is to move on and not be fighting.”
In Hojlund’s defence, he potentially had a point. Man United icon Paul Scholes slammed Dalot for his failure to provide a cross.
Speaking on Thursday, the former midfielder said: “They should be ahead, Dalot should have squared it to Hojlund. They have dangerous players but haven't been a threat.
“The frustrating thing is we watched them practice that. For Dalot not to see it is criminal. He has made a good run, you are a right back, for any right back in world football to not see that is criminal.”

Meanwhile, Robbie Savage was very critical of Dalot. He added: “People can criticise Rasmus Hojlund for not scoring in 18 games but look at that there. He’s made the run. Why on earth has Dalot not played that ball across? If I’m the manager, I’d be screaming at him.
“Hojlund is in, he’s goal-side of the defender. It’s an easy pass, just roll it across. That’s unacceptable. People can criticise Hojlund but he’s made the right run there and got past the defender. He still didn’t get the opportunity.
“That’s not acceptable from Dalot. If I’m the manager I would be absolutely hammering him right now. What is going through Dalot’s mind there?”
