Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has needed just 27 matches to become the number-one coach in Champions League history.
Across his tenure at Bayern Munich and now at Barcelona, the German tactician has racked up 23 victories from 27 games, racking up an impressive 85% win rate.
This is the highest percentage ever recorded in the history of the competition among coaches who have managed at least 25 games.
The second on the list is legendary former Bayern Munich boss Jupp Heynckes, who achieved a 70% success rate.
Flick’s journey in the Champions League
Flick made his Champions League debut with Bayern Munich on 6 November 2019 against Olympiakos. From that moment, he embarked on an extraordinary run that ultimately led to lifting the trophy.
The 60-year-old recorded 16 wins and one draw, suffering just one defeat – against Paris Saint-Germain in April 2021, shortly before being appointed as Germany’s national team coach.
At Barcelona, his record remains close to outstanding, with seven victories, one draw, and a single defeat – against AS Monaco in his Champions League debut with the Blaugrana.

Flick has secured wins against Young Boys (5-0), Bayern Munich (4-1), Red Star Belgrade (2-5), Borussia Dortmund (2-3), and Benfica twice (4-5 and 0-1), bringing his total to 23 victories.
Ahead of several legendary names
Flick is ahead of legendary managers such as Pep Guardiola, who has won multiple European titles and holds a place in the top 10 with a 61% win rate (112 victories from 181 matches).
Zinedine Zidane, who won three UCL titles, follows closely with 60% (32 wins from 53 matches), alongside Louis van Gaal, who also has 60% (57 from 95).
Meanwhile, current Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti does not make it into the top 10 with a 58% win rate (126 wins from 215 matches).
Flick’s next challenge will be the second leg of the Round of 16 against Benfica, where he aims to further cement his legacy in the Champions League.
Having not lost a single game in 2025 so far, Barcelona are now considered one of the strongest contenders to reach the final of the European competition.
