Manchester United legend Teddy Sheringham believes that Marcus Rashford should have tried harder to get his career back on track at Old Trafford.

Rashford, 27, left United to join Villa on loan in the January transfer window. Since moving to the west Midlands, the England international has impressed.

He has grabbed three assists in six appearances, and no Premier League player has created more big chances (six) than Rashford in all competitions since the start of February.

The Villa faithful are over the moon with the latest addition to their ranks, with many hoping that the deal will become permanent at the end of the season.

For Sheringham, he thinks Rashford should have fought for his future at the club he started out at, rather than heading for the exit and a new challenge.

In an interview with Prime Casino, Sheringham stated: "Marcus Rashford’s improved form wouldn't be a worry for me, no.

"Players need to realise that when they're at Manchester United, they're at one of the best clubs in the world.

"You have to fight tooth and nail and give 100% and more to make it work at United because you're not going to be at a better football club.

"Aston Villa is not anywhere near as big as United, so if he's happy there doing what he's doing then I'm delighted for him. I would have fought a little bit harder to resurrect my career at United first."
