‘Important moment in our season’ - Ruben Amorim outlines what Man Utd need before Arsenal clash

Manchester United are back in Premier League action this weekend when they host title chasers Arsenal.

Fresh off the back of Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Real Sociedad in the Europa League round of 16, the Reds gear up to face an Arsenal side that enjoyed a 7-1 win over PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Ruben Amorim’s side threw away a 1-goal lead against La Real following a controversial penalty that went in the Spanish side’s favour as Bruno Fernandes handled the ball inside the box.

United will need to dust themselves off quickly to prepare for their clash against high-flying Arsenal, who are second in the Premier League standings.

Defeat for Arsenal would make it more difficult for the Gunners to compete with Liverpool for the title.

Ruben Amorim reveals how Man Utd will prepare for Arsenal

United have two days to prepare for Sunday’s 4:30pm kick-off at Old Trafford.

In preparation for their trip to Spain, Harry Maguire and Manuel Ugarte were ruled out due to minor knocks. It remains to be seen if they will be available to link back up with United’s first-team squad this weekend.

The United duo join an absentee list which includes Lisandro Martinez, Amad Diallo, Luke Shaw, Mason Mount, Jonny Evans, Altay Bayindir and Kobbie Mainoo.

Amorim will want to avoid further injuries because United have another crucial game next week when they take on Real Sociedad in the second leg of their Europa League tie. United’s head coach will have one eye on that because the competition presents our only possible route back into the Champions League.

Speaking to reporters after United’s 1-1 draw with La Real, Amorim stressed the importance of recovery and outlined what he his players need before they take on Arsenal.

“We have to recover, be really smart during the game against Arsenal,” Amorim said during his post-match press conference.

“We have to check the players, they have to sleep. It’s an important moment in our season.”

Only time will tell if United have extra players back to face the Gunners and Real Sociedad in the second leg.

Ruben Amorim record against Arsenal

With two wins in four matches against Arsenal, Amorim is looking to improve his record against Arsenal with another victory over Mikel Arteta’s side.

In 2023, Amorim faced Arsenal twice as Sporting CP manager in the Europa League. They eliminated the Gunners in the round of 16 after drawing the first leg 2-2 at home.

The Portuguese coach has already stood in the opposite dugout to Arteta on two occasions as United manager, losing 2-0 in the Premier League before beating them on penalties in the FA Cup third round.
