Arguably the most talented player who could be available to buy this summer is Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz. The German international has once again starred for Bayer Leverkusen this season. That form has seen him loom large as a potential target for Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side could potentially need a replacement for club legend Kevin De Bruyne. It does seem that Florian Wirtz could be the ideal player for that role.
You do feel that if City are to land the German international they would have to sell their vision of how Wirtz would fit into Pep Guardiola’s squad to the German international to sign him this summer. That would especially be the case if Real Madrid and Bayern Munich came into the race to sign the Bayer Leverkusen star. But now a new report suggests that Manchester City may have a run at signing Wirtz this summer. If that is the case they simply must seize that opportunity if it is presented to them.
Christian Falk has reported in his exclusive Daily Briefing column that Manchester City may have an advantage in the race to sign Florian Wirtz. Furthermore, Falk reports that Bayern Munich and Real Madrid have decided that they will move for the German international in 2026. Falk adds that it is expected that Wirtz will sign a contract extension with Bayer Leverkusen shortly. But there is another situation at play in Falk’s report. Falk adds that agent Giovanni Branchini is trying to convince Wirtz to sign for Manchester City. Lastly, Falk adds that the expectation is that Bayer Leverkusen will retain their star playmaker for next season. But Manchester City are making their move to sign the German international.
Manchester City must take the chance that appears to be available to them if it helps them land one of the top young playmakers in Europe.
If Manchester City are the only club after Florian Wirtz this summer, they simply must push as hard as they can to sign the German international. It is rare to see Real Madrid and Bayern Munich hold back from moving for one of the premier players in the game. But that is what appears to be unfolding in regards to Wirtz.

As Christian Falk reports the expectation is that Bayer Leverkusen will retain the services of the young attacking midfielder. But it does seem that Manchester City are pushing hard to sign Wirtz. That’s understandable given what City need to add to Pep Guardiola’s squad. If Real Madrid and Bayern Munich sit back this summer the opportunity is there for City to strike. That is rare in the modern-day transfer market. But the opportunity appears to be there for Manchester City. It’s one they must seize upon. It could be their only opportunity to sign Wirtz and it’s one that may not come around again.
It appears that Manchester City may now have a clear run at signing Florian Wirtz in the upcoming summer transfer window. Real Madrid and Bayern Munich appear to be holding off from moving for the German international. It now is up to the City hierarchy to convince Wirtz to leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer. If they can, they will arguably land the ideal player to replace Kevin De Bruyne.
