Nottingham Forest 'interested in a deal' for £25m-rated ace as transfer admission made

Nottingham Forest are said to have their eye on Feyenoord ace Igor Paixao as they look to bolster their attacking options in the summer.

Attention is already beginning to turn to what will be an important transfer window for the Reds - one they hope will involve planning for a Champions League campaign. But regardless of whether or not they qualify for Europe, the top end of the pitch is certainly an area the club will look to strengthen.

According to Dutch publication Soccer News, Forest are among a number of sides “interested in a deal” for Brazilian Paixao. Premier League rivals Bournemouth and Newcastle United are also said to be keen.

Last month, The Sun credited Tottenham Hotspur with an interest in the attacker. They stated Feyenoord valued the player in the region of £25 million.

The winger switched to the Netherlands from Coritiba, in his homeland, in 2022 but could soon be on the move again. He has netted eight goals across the league and Champions League so far this season, and his fine form has attracted plenty of attention.

His father, Jose, has admitted the 24-year-old was not short of options three years ago when he joined Feyenoord in a €4.5m (£3.7m) deal. It is said Jose “advises his son almost daily” and will play a significant role in any decision over his future in the coming months.

"America was probably the best option financially,” Jose told Soccer News. “But Igor was 22 at the time. He will certainly earn more in the coming years, but money was certainly not the most important motivation then.

“We put all the options side by side, looked at what kind of club and what kind of city he would end up in. Feyenoord turned out to be the best option.”

He added: "Every player wants to play in one of the big leagues. But if we take a step after this season, it has to be a well-considered step. So that we don't make a mistake and regret it in the future."

Soccer News also quote the player himself ahead of a big summer. On his future, he said: "I have a contract with Feyenoord until 2029. God and Feyenoord decide what happens."

Forest made strengthening out wide a priority last summer. Jota Silva and Ramon Sosa were brought in to provide competition and cover for Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi. However, the two newcomers have struggled for regular game time as they continue to adapt to English football.
