SINGAPORE – Eighteen motorcyclists were caught riding without valid driving licences during a multi-agency enforcement operation near Woodlands Checkpoint on Feb 25.
In a statement on March 7, the police said eight of the 18 riders did not have insurance coverage.
More than 160 motorcyclists were stopped for checks during the joint operation by the Traffic Police (TP), National Environment Agency (NEA) and Land Transport Authority (LTA).
The NEA issued 24 summonses to motorcyclists for vehicular smoke and excessive noise emissions, while the LTA found 35 motorcycles with improper licence plates.
The Causeway, which the Woodlands Checkpoint leads to, is one of the world’s busiest border crossings, with more than 100,000 vehicles passing through each day.
The police remind all motorists, including those driving or riding foreign-registered vehicles, to comply with Singapore’s laws and regulations or face penalties.
Those with foreign-registered vehicles could be denied entry into Singapore if they flout the rules.
The TP urge motorcyclists to practise safe riding habits as they and their pillion riders are vulnerable on the roads.
