Chelsea interest in player‘not surprising’ – Real Betis calm despite Blues hovering

On Thursday, claims from the British press stated Chelsea have stepped up their interest in Real Betis’ Jesús Rodríguez.

Estadio Deportivo relay that and then provide their own take on Real Betis’ stance.

The 19-year-old joined the Spanish club in 2023 and was promoted to the first team by Manuel Pellegrini earlier this season. He has a goal and two assists from 17 games.

Last month, we covered claims from Spain that Liverpool sent a scout to follow Rodríguez against Athletic.

Estadio mentions the Reds and the latest claims from the UK about Chelsea interest. The player’s performances and the expected growth makes it ‘not surprising’ that clubs have started to closely follow him.

The report states ‘there will be movements around’ Rodríguez in the summer window and despite this, Real Betis are ‘relatively calm’.

That’s because the Andalusian club have extended his contract until 2029, and it includes a €35m release clause. In addition to this, Rodríguez is happy at Real Betis and feels it’s best for him to continue with them for his development.

Estadio claim Real Betis have no plans to offer a new contract to Rodríguez to raise his release clause. However, it’s not ruled out for them to improve his contract and increase the clause to €50m.

For now, Pellegrini’s side don’t seem to be worried about claims of Chelsea stepping up for the youngster.
