Chelsea are preparing to make a move to sign Southampton star Aaron Ramsdale this summer as they plan to sign a new goalkeeper.
That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 26-year-old wants to make the move to Stamford Bridge this summer.
The goalkeeper is believed to have a release clause in his contract which would allow him to make the move if Southampton are relegated.
This comes after Brown told Football Insider that Ramsdale wants to leave Southampton amid a potential mass exodus at St Mary’s following their anticipated relegation.
The goalkeeper is keen to remain in the Premier League with regular game time rather than dropping down to the Championship, and Enzo Maresca’s side are strong suitors.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are prioritising the signing of a goalkeeper this summer amid concerns about the performances of Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen.

Aaron Ramsdale emerges as new target for Chelsea
Brown told Football Insider on 18 February that Chelsea want to sign Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher and would be prepared to meet his £40million asking price.
Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, explained that Ramsdale is another name on the Blues shortlist of options.
“*Chelsea are assessing their options in the transfer market,*” he told Football Insider.
“The problem for them is, there aren’t too many top-class goalkeepers available.
“One of those options, I’m told, is Aaron Ramsdale.
“The Arsenal manager obviously didn’t think he was good enough to be their number one, so he went out and bought Raya to replace him.
“But from what I hear, Chelsea feel he would be an upgrade on the options they’ve already got.
“Ramsdale is an England international and has been pretty highly rated throughout his career.
“He’s a decent goalkeeper, I’m not so sure whether he’s top-class, but that’s up to them to decide.
“He doesn’t want to play in the Championship, so if and when Southampton go down, and Chelsea come calling, he’ll want to make that move.
“They’ll be able to offer him first-team football because they’ve not been happy this season.”

Kepa Arrizabalaga ‘wants to stay at Bournemouth’ after new twist
As Chelsea prepare to sign a new goalkeeper in the summer, the current options on their books will have questions about their long-term futures at the club.
Sanchez and Jorgensen have both been at fault for goals conceded this season, although the latter is regarded as a long, term option as he is only 22.
The forgotten man at Chelsea, however, has been Kepa Arrizabalaga, as the Spaniard has spent the season on loan at high-flying Bournemouth.
As a result of his impressive displays, though, Brown told Football Insider that Kepa is keen to stay at Bournemouth and has no plans to return to Stamford Bridge this summer.
