Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho singled out a key trait in Ruben Amorim that showed shades of legendary former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
Ruben Amorim is now the sixth permanent Manchester United manager at Old Trafford since Sir Alex Ferguson called it time on his career in 2013.
Ferguson, who is regarded as one of the best managers of all time, led United to their last Premier League title in the 2012-13 season ahead of his retirement.
Amorim left Portuguese outfit Sporting CP last November and replaced former United manager Erik ten Hag in the Old Trafford hot seat in 2024.
Erik ten Hag was sacked as United manager last October and Ruud van Nistelrooy has briefly taken over as interim manager ahead of Amorim’s arrival.
Amorim has already experienced a tough start to life at Old Trafford, including United’s recent exit from the FA Cup at the hands of Fulham.
The 40-year-old United manager’s last chance to lift major silverware in the 2024-25 campaign falls on the Red Devils capturing the Europa League trophy.
However, the Red Devils’ hopes of securing European football also rely on their Europa League progression, with United currently 14th in the Premier League table.

Jose Mourinho asked about Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim
Ruben Amorim has previously spoken about the influence that former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho had on him early in his coaching career.
Mourinho was at Old Trafford when Amorim arrived at the Premier League club as part of an internship and the ex-Sporting CP boss learned from the ‘Special One.’
The 62-year-old Fenerbahce manager was asked if he had spoken with Amorim any further since his fellow countryman arrived at the Red Devils in 2024.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Mourinho insisted that Amorim is very “independent” and the pair have not communicated due to them having “no time” on their hands.
“No, since he took the job Christmas, Christmas wishes,” he said, as per the Manchester Evening News.
“He has no time; I have no time. He is independent, I have my job to do. No more than that. But he knows that I wish him well.”

Ruben Amorim’s ‘independent’ quality was seen in Sir Alex Ferguson
Sir Alex Ferguson was well known for running a tight ship at United and the 83-year-old Scotsman ensured that his rule at Old Trafford remained unquestioned.
The ex-United and Aberdeen boss wasn’t afraid to axe players who stepped out of line and was very independent with his leadership style and the decisions he made.
Ferguson’s qualities as a leader were deeply admired and the iconic Scot even earned praise from former UK Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair over his abilities.
“I thought what was interesting was his strength as a leader combined with what was a very reflective self-analysis,” Sir Tony Blair said on BBC’s ‘Sir Alex Ferguson: Secrets of Success,’ as per the Independent in 2015.
Amorim will do well holding on to the independent trait that Mourinho singled out, especially as it helped Ferguson during his time at Old Trafford.
