Ex-NFL agent reveals likely price tag for Steelers QB Justin Fields

The closer it gets, the likelier the Pittsburgh Steelers will see Justin Fields hit the open market. Fields has multiple teams interested in him, and on top of that, it certainly seems that Fields wants to test the market. If he did hit the market, what would be the likely price tag?

Former NFL agent Joel Corry revealed that Fields would certainly get somewhere over $10 million, but would not break the bank like some are specualting.

"Fields’ plan should be to find the best opportunity to be a starting quarterback, just like Darnold did in free agency last year,” Corry wrote. “Darnold signing a one-year, $10 million deal with the Vikings is going to pay big dividends for him.”

That Darnold seems like the blueprint for the Steelers. It does not break the bank, and that will allow Fields to hit free agency in a year to get another big contract if he performs with the Steelers or his new team.

Not everyone is sold that he could take that leap, either. Former NFL running back LeSean McCoy sees Russell Wilson as a superior option.

“Why would you be keeping Fields other than to make him a backup, or give him a clipboard, or give him a package to run the ball here and there,” McCoy said. “He can’t play, can’t throw. He don’t win. Explain to me, from a good franchise and a good coach, why the hell would we keep him?”

Fields seems to be the Steelers' Plan A as it stands. If the Steelers end up landing Fields on a new deal, it should come in around where Corry is protecting, but to have him sign before Monday, they may have to overpay him.
