Where are they now? The last Blues team to play at Crystal Palace

Mick McCarthy named the most junior team in the club’s history, with Town's outfield being an average age of just 19. The young Blues pushed the Eagles all the way in their Carabao Cup second round 2-1 defeat at Selhurst Park in August 2017.

Let's find out where that starting XI are now...

DEAN GERKEN

The goalkeeper was the most senior player in this line-up, captaining the side on the night, having made over 100 appearances for Town during his stint at Portman Road.

He left the Blues to eturn to Colchester United in 2019, before retiring from football in 2022 and has since returned to another former club in Bristol City as academy goalkeeping coach.

LUKE WOOLFENDEN

Still at the club, the defender was making his first start for Town in this game, having made his debut in the previous round against Luton Town.

Woolfenden has had a roller-coaster journey with the club, becoming a key member of the side who won back-to-back promotions to the Premier League. He could make his 200th appearance for the Blues this weekend.

PAT WEBBER

The defender was making his first and only appearance for Town after leaving the club to join Wigan Athletic in the summer of 2019, but didn't make the grade there.

Webber moved away from professional football back in 2021 and is now an account manager at Whiskey & Wealth Club.

GEORGE FOWLER

Another player who was making his sole appearance for Town, having came through the youth ranks, before leaving the Blues to join Aldershot Town in 2018.

Fowler is now at National League South side Maidstone United, where he was part of the team that shocked Town in the FA Cup fourth round last season.

DANNY ROWE

The winger made 29 appearances for Town, scoring one goal before leaving to club in 2020 and joined Burton Albion in February 2021.

Rowe finished playing football in 2022 to focus on his property business.

The midfielder was having a breakthrough campaign, making his league debut in the game prior. He would finish 2017/18 with 20 games under his belt.

Nydam, however would suffer a nasty ankle injury during the 2019/20 pre-season and, though he was able to return to action for the club, it eventually ended his career early, retiring at the age of just 22. Now he is working in coaching.

ADAM MCDONNELL

The Irishman was making his final appearance for the Blues, having previously played four games for the first-team, before leaving to join Aldershot, alongside Fowler in 2018.

McDonnell went on to have spell at Boreham Wood, before returning to Ireland to sign for Sligo Rovers. The midfielder is now at fellow Irish side Bohemian.

McLoughlin is now a regular at Newport County in League Two after spells at Morecambe and Salford City.

FLYNN DOWNES

The academy graduate played 99 games for the Blues, before leaving the club to join Swansea for £1.5m in 2021. He then signed for West Ham for £9m, a year later.

Town tried to bring Downes back to his boyhood club last summer, but the midfielder opted to join Southampton permanently following a successful loan spell. He has been part of a struggling Saints side in the Premier League this season.

BEN FOLAMI

The Australian forward is another debutant in this line-up, who came through the youth ranks at Town, featuring a further six times, scoring one goal.

Folami left the Blues in the summer of 2021 to return to his native Australia to join Melbourne Victory, having initially been on loan. He is now at Adelaide United.

BERSANT CELINA

The Kosovan was on loan from Man City in his first spell at Portman Road, where he became a fan favourite during the 2017/18 season, scoring eight goals in 28 games.

Following his loan at Town, he joined Swansea City on a permanent deal for £3 million, before moving to Dijon in the French top flight for a similar fee. Celina then returned to the Blues for a second loan in 2021/22. He now plays for Swedish side AIK, having had brief stints at Turkish side Kasimpasa and Stoke City.
