Sven Botman makes strong plea to Newcastle United fans after Eddie Howe announcement

Newcastle United defender Sven Botman has admitted he is ‘frustrated’ ahead of undergoing surgery.

The 25-year-old’s bad luck has continued, with Sven Botman only recently returning from a 10-month absence.

Now a different knee injury is ruling him out, as the Newcastle United defender prepares to miss the Carabao Cup final.

However, Botman’s injury is not as serious as his previous one.

Despite fears that his season would be over, Eddie Howe has confirmed that Botman will be out for eight weeks. That should result in him returning for the final few games of the Premier League season.

Sven Botman’s message to Newcastle United supporters

In the meantime, Botman has called on supporters to get behind the team at a pivotal point in the season.

The Carabao Cup final is next weekend, while Newcastle are still in the hunt to qualify for the Champions League.

With that in mind, Botman has told Newcastle United fans on Instagram to give the players their ‘full support’.

“Frustrated times for me and the club as I have to proceed a small surgery,” he wrote on his Instagram story.

“I’ll give my 100% as always to get back asap.

“The team needs the full support to bring the cup to Newcastle and finish strong in the league.

“See you soon Mags.”

2025/26 will be a huge season for Sven Botman at Newcastle United

Given the timeframe for Botman’s return, he could still feature this season.

Eddie Howe on Sven Botman:

"Sven, we have been trying to get him back to full fitness, he was very close to the Brighton game but the day before he felt something again in his knee. This week he has had the same discomfort so it looks like he will have to have an operation.

However, there are no guarantees that he will. That might depend on how fit he is and how Newcastle’s other centre-backs are playing.

If Fabian Schar and Dan Burn are enjoying rich veins of form towards the end of the campaign, it might be that Botman is not needed.

No matter what happens, the 2025/26 campaign is going to be hugely important for Botman. It will be a clean slate, having returned midway through the current season.

That made things difficult for Botman. He did not have a full pre-season under his belt, while his place in the starting XI has not been guaranteed.

It should be a different story next season, and there is every chance that the Magpies could have a new-look defence. As well as Botman being back fit, Newcastle want to sign a centre-back.

They are looking for a right-sider to be Fabian Schar’s long-term replacement, but it remains to be seen who their top target is.

The Magpies want Dean Huijsen, while Newcastle have Taylor Harwood-Bellis on their radar too.
