Slot not overlooking Southampton ahead of PSG return

Arne Slot has said his full focus is on Southampton despite Liverpool’s looming clash against Paris Saint-Germain.

Liverpool welcome bottom-of-the-table Southampton to Anfield in the Premier League this weekend. The clash with the struggling Saints is sandwiched between the club’s Champions League last-16 tie with PSG.

On Wednesday, Liverpool won 1-0 in Paris but were second-best throughout in a smash-and-grab win at the Parc des Princes.

A lethargic Liverpool performance has led to speculation that Slot could make multiple changes this weekend, ahead of PSG’s arrival at Anfield for the second leg on Tuesday.

Harvey Elliott, Darwin Nunez, Wataru Endo and Curtis Jones all impressed off the bench against PSG and are pushing for inclusion.

However, Slot dismissed that he could overlook Southampton and said his selection will be based only on what is required to beat the Saints.

“For me the one against Southampton is by far the most important, not only because it’s the first one we play but it is a very important one for us.

“If I make the choice to play other players that is because I think that’s the biggest chance to win the game tomorrow and not because I want to rest them for the game against PSG.”
