Jurgen Klopp reveals Liverpool return date but admits fear he could 'jinx' title win

Jurgen Klopp says he plans to attend Liverpool's final game of the season

Jurgen Klopp says he WILL return to Anfield on the final day of the season after being invited back to Merseyside by Arne Slot.

But the German has resisted the urge to embark on an earlier pilgrimage back to his old home for fears of jinxing Liverpool in their bid to become Premier League champions.

The Reds have exceeded all expectations in Slot's first season at the helm, with Klopp stepping away at the end of the 2023-24 campaign. Liverpool are currently 13 points clear of Arsenal at the top of the table with Manchester City also well below them.

While Liverpool have now held a commanding lead at the Premier League summit for some time, Klopp says he did not want to become a distraction during a crucial stage of the season.

He did, however, confirm that there are plans in place for him to attend Liverpool's game with Crystal Palace at the end of May: an afternoon where Slot's men could be officially crowned as Premier League champions.

"Yes, the plan is [to be in Liverpool] but not on the bus, I will be there with the people I saw on the bus," Klopp explained during a fundraiser in Cape Town this week.

"That's the idea to be honest, but we will see. I think I will be there for the last game... I didn't want to go earlier to be honest because I didn't want to jinx it all the time. If I'm in the stadium for the first time and they lose, 'oh f*** sake'. So I go there when it's decided."

Liverpool manager Arne Slot

Liverpool are on course to win the Premier League under Klopp's successor, Arne Slot

Slot revealed last month that he had already extended the invitation for Klopp to come back to Anfield for a couple of big games, although the Red Bull Soccer chief's schedule meant he was unable to do so.

The Dutchman then reiterated that he would be more than happy to see Klopp in the stands at Wembley when Liverpool meet Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final next weekend.

"I wouldn't mind him (Klopp) coming," Slot said when the question was asked of him. "I invited him, I think, to the (Manchester) City and Real (Madrid) games, but he told me he has a job and is somewhere else in the world.

"He can be here every single time he wants to come - either to the training ground or the games. He is more than welcome. But at this moment he had a job to do and in the first half of the season he had a job to do with his wife, enjoying life. For me, he is always welcome."
