Man United head coach Ruben Amorim
Ruben Amorim could find it tough recruiting players at Man Utd
Ruben Amorim has been warned that he faces a tough task attracting new recruits to Manchester United as the club is no longer a desirable destination.
A former United star delivered the brutal verdict around the same time as it was revealed that the Premier League giants could miss out on Viktor Gyokeres this summer. The Swedish striker has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford after previously working closely with Amorim at Sporting Lisbon.
However, according to The Sun, Gyokeres is said to be keen to play in the Champions League, posing a major stumbling block for United, who are currently languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table. They could still qualify by winning the Europa League, but that looks a tall order, especially following Thursday's 1-1 round of 16 first leg draw away to Real Sociedad.
The 26-year-old is likely to have an abundance of other options on the table after scoring a whopping 37 goals in only 39 games for his club so far this term.
And ex-Red Devils goalkeeper Ben Foster, who played for the club for five years, now believes the chaos on and off the field at Old Trafford could deter more prospective signings.
The former England and Wrexham shot-stopper suggested Amorim faces a long, uphill struggle as he looks to make the right additions to suit his favoured 3-4-3 system, describing the situation at United as "carnage".
"They (United) have got all sorts of problems," he told Hayters. "I don't know whether the on pitch stuff is the worst or the off pitch. I haven't got a clue and I don't think anybody at the football club really knows what's going on. It's carnage and a complete rebuild is needed.
"I don't know how they're going to go about it, because it's not going to be an easy fix either. It's going to be a long, slow process. If you look at some of the teams that are above them in the Premier League, they’re years ahead of Man United. It's going to take a long time to get rid of some of the players that don't fit the system.

"It's going to take a long time to recruit the players that he wants and they are not necessarily going to want to come to the club as well. It won't be their first choice, which is crazy really. If you talk about Man United in years gone by, they are the first choice but not anymore."
United have lacked firepower up front this season as the likes of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have failed to deliver regularly in front of goal. Crystal Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta, RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko and Ipswich Town frontman Liam Delap are among the other targets they have been linked with as they aim to improve their tally next term.
