Ruben Amorim has urged his players to stop “fighting” amongst themselves following Rasmus Hojlund’s frustration with Diogo Dalot in their Europa League draw against Real Sociedad.

Hojlund, still without a goal in 19 games, lost his temper in the first half when Dalot failed to square the ball to him for a tap-in chance.

United did go on to score through Joshua Zirkzee, but Sociedad equalised with a penalty, leaving the first leg of the Europa League last-16 tie level at 1-1.

This performance raises questions about Hojlund’s place in the starting XI against Arsenal.

Especially with rising star Chido Obi available for selection.

Obi, 17, missed the Europa League clash but has impressed in brief cameos and is now pushing for more minutes.

Amorim explained that Dalot may not have realised Hojlund had the advantage.

“Sometimes they want to do the best, but they are not deciding the best way,” Amorim stated.

“The important thing is not to keep fighting, but to move on the next opportunity.”

Hojlund’s performance against Sociedad saw him fail to take a single shot on goal.

Amorim backed the striker’s effort, saying, “He’s trying really hard. He gave everything and made the runs.”

The Portuguese believes Hojlund needs to stay patient and focus on future opportunities, especially after a strong run against Dalot that ultimately went unrewarded.

Chido Obi waiting to overtake Rasmus Hojlund in pecking order

Meanwhile, Obi is drawing attention as United’s potential future star after impressing in his cameos so far.

Though he wasn’t included in the Europa League squad, the club is being cautious with Obi’s development.

However with the Premier League season largely out of reach, his chance to shine against Arsenal is growing.

A solid performance against Arsenal could also give Rasmus Hojlund the chance to rest and prepare for the crucial second leg against Real Sociedad.

United’s progression in the Europa League offers a key route into next season’s Champions League.
