Ricardo Pereira could make his first Leicester City appearance in four months this weekend with the full-back declared available for selection at Chelsea.
Ricardo has not featured since the 1-1 draw with Ipswich in early November after undergoing surgery on a hamstring issue.
But now he’s back in contention after a week of training and could make his first City appearance under Ruud van Nistelrooy at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
However, after such a long absence, a place in the starting line-up seems unlikely for now.
But when Ricardo is ready to start, he will allow City to try the inverted full-back system that they used to great success last season, and that van Nistelrooy used during his season in charge of PSV.
“This was his first full week of team training, so he will be available for selection,” van Nistelrooy said at his press conference on Friday morning.
“We want to build him up with common sense and see how he goes and take it from there.”
It means City now have five fit full-backs to choose from, with James Justin, Victor Kristiansen, Luke Thomas and Woyo Coulibaly available.
The latter missed out on the defeat to West Ham with a minor injury but is now back.
“He’s fine,” van Nistelrooy said of the £3m January signing. “He had some little bits, but he’s trained and he’s available.”
With no fresh injuries to report, City are just one player shy of a fully-fit squad. Only winger Abdul Fatawu is unavailable, the Ghanaian ruled out for the season following an ACL tear.
