Liverpool have been one of the clubs credited with interest in Ajax’s Jorrel Hato recently.
The Netherlands international was spotted in attendance at Anfield for the Reds’ league win over Ipswich Town in January. This fuelled rumours, but it was played down by the 19-year-old, and he insisted Ryan Gravenberch invited him to Liverpool.
Hato continues to be linked to the Premier League and Soccer News state it’s believed Liverpool are ready to pay €60m for him.
The left-back has impressed for Ajax and contributed to their attack by managing three goals and six from this season.
His contract is until 2028, but journalist Sjoerd Mossou claims the Liverpool target could leave in the summer window. He talks about the fullback on ESPN NL’s Voetbalpraat.
“That depends a bit on himself and also a bit on Ajax’s plans. He is not in a hurry at all when you are 18 [now 19],” he said.
“It depends a lot on what comes. He is a boy who can really choose carefully. If a club comes along those fits perfectly and that has great plans, then he will go. That seems clear to me.”
Former AZ Alkmaar defender Kees Luijckx was also part of the panel and has backed Hato to have a successful career.
“Isn’t this a player for the European top in the end? And if they come, then it’s over. Then you’re gone. But I don’t think he will go to AS Roma… I really don’t think it’s normal,” Luijckx explained.
“All the qualities are there: physical, technical, perhaps tactical, so that you sometimes still think yes, but that’s logical. You certainly have to be older as a defender to be able to fill that in even better. When I see him in front of the camera: what a calm, he is simply a captain.”
The UK press have reported about Liverpool are keen on signing AFC Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez in the next window.
Andrew Robertson or Konstantinos Tsimikas would have to leave Liverpool to make room for a new left-back next season.
