Manchester United left“frustrated”with Ruben Amorim’s comments about improving star

Manchester United have reportedly been left “frustrated” by Ruben Amorim’s comments on loanee Antony after his strong start at Real Betis.

Antony has made an impressive start to his loan spell at Real Betis since departing Manchester United in the January transfer window.

The Brazilian winger recorded five goal contributions in his first six games for Betis and was even nominated for La Liga Player of the Month in February alongside Kylian Mbappe.

He then played the full 90 minutes in Betis’ stunning victory over Real Madrid at the weekend, before registering another assist in the Europa Conference League against Vitoria de Guimaraes.

United boss Ruben Amorim recently attributed Antony’s strong start in Spain being down to the physical differences to the Premier League.

“When you play against any team in England, the physicality is there,” Amorim told TNT Sports. “If you don’t have physicality, you will struggle a lot.

“Antony is so much better now in Spain. It’s [because of] a lot of factors but I guarantee you it’s physicality.”

United left frustrated with Amorim’s comments on Antony

Antony’s agent, Júnior Pedroso, slammed those comments from Amorim as a “very superficial argument” which “does not reflect reality.”

The assessment has seemingly not gone down well at Old Trafford either, with reports suggesting that United chiefs have been left “frustrated” after Amorim’s claim.

According to UOL, the Reds want to sell Antony in the summer window and those above Amorim, such as Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox, do not believe his comments would have helped the situation.

It was added that those at the club don’t want Antony being “publicly depreciated”, particularly by the United boss. They want the publicity around the Brazilian to be entirely positive to strengthen their situation in the summer.

United would need an offer of around £32 million for the 25-year-old to avoid recording a loss on the balance sheets for his transfer. Antony cost the club £85 million in the summer of 2022.

Amorim giving press ammunition with truthful approach

Amorim came into United last November and his truthfulness in the press was a breath of fresh air for supporters who had grew tired of Erik ten Hag’s deflecting.

However, that honesty from the Portuguese boss has since caused a few problems, including this Antony situation.

Amorim said that this is the “worst team in Manchester United’s history” in one press conference before clarifying that he was speaking about his own performance in the next.

It is quite simple. Journalists will twist words when a manager is being extremely careful. Amorim gives them easy ammunition at the moment.

And that is obviously made worse when the performances on the pitch are not good enough like at United this season.
