The latest Liverpool team news, injury update and predicted XI ahead of their Premier League clash with Southampton
Liverpool are top of the Premier League table as they chase down the title. Arne Slot was picked as their replacement for Jurgen Klopp last summer and he has done an impressive job.
The Reds are also still in the Champions League and Carabao Cup so could get their hands on multiple trophies this season. They have 67 points on the board in the league after 28 fixtures and are 13 points clear ahead of Arsenal in 2nd.
Slot’s men won 1-0 away at PSG in Europe last time out with Harvey Elliott getting their goal. They are back in action this weekend against struggling Southampton at home.
Liverpool predicted XI vs Southampton
Alisson is Liverpool’s number one when fit and will keep his place between the sticks against Southampton. Caoimhin Kelleher provides back-up from the bench and he will have fresh competition later this year when Giorgi Mamardashvili officially joins from Valencia.
Trent Alexander-Arnold should get the nod at right-back again despite there being question marks about his long-term future. His contract at Anfield expires in the summer and he is due to become a free agent as things stand amid links to Real Madrid. At left-back, Andy Robertson injects experience into the team.
Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk have formed a formidable partnership in the heart of defence for the Reds. The latter has been with the Merseyside giants since 2018 and he has made 308 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with 26 goals.
Ryan Gravenberch has enjoyed a new lease of life under Slot in this campaign and the Holland international has been a key player in the middle of the park. Alexis Mac Allister usually plays alongside him but they have other options too such as Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo should they wish to freshen things up.
Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz will look to cause Southampton some serious problems from the wing. Meanwhile, Dominik Szoboszlai has found the net on seven occasions this term and will look to add to his tally against the Saints.
Up front, Diogo Jota, who joined the club from Wolves for a fee of £41m back in 2020, may feature again from the off. The former Wolves man has the likes of Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo waiting in the wings if not.

What has been said?
Speaking ahead of their game against Southampton, Liverpool head coach Slot has said in his press conference: "I have to convince my players that we play three finals, like I said now a few times, and I'm hoping – and that's why I every time come up with the word 'final' – that I influence our fans a bit as well.
"That they understand how important they are going to be tomorrow. I'm hoping they will not come into the stadium five minutes before the kick-off, I'm hoping the whole stadium is already completely filled half an hour before kick-off and that these players get the reward for what they did in Paris for working so hard.”
