Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho has sent a message to Diogo Dalot after he clashed with Rasmus Hojlund in Thursday night's Europa League clash with Real Sociedad.

Joshua Zirkzee's opener in the 57th minute was cancelled out by Mikel Oyarzabal's penalty after VAR penalised Bruno Fernandes for handball. Sociedad came close to snatching a winner in the closing stages but it remains all to play for next week.

United were the better team throughout the game in San Sebastian and there was a moment in the first-half that should have resulted in a goal. Diogo Dalot's decision not to cross the ball to Rasmus Hojlund, who had raced into the box and clear of the defender, resulting in the Dane being left furious.

It perfectly summed-up the issues within the United squad in the final third, something Ruben Amorim admitted to. "We're creating chances, but sometimes you don't see it in the expected goals, because we managed not to shoot," he said.

"But the great opportunities are there and you can see it. We have transitions, we have situations and sometimes we're missing something.

“That can change something, especially in these kinds of games, when we need goals that can make a difference. I’m just imagining Diogo didn’t know for sure that Rasmus had the advantage and he felt that he had a lot of time to think of the play.

“It was a clear position, Rasmus did really well, Dalot did really well, but the decision was not the best. The important thing is to move on and not be fighting.”

Following the draw in Spain, Garnacho took to social media to post a number of pictures of the game, including an image of him and Dalot. The wing-back liked the post alongside Matthijs de Ligt, Joshua Zirkzee, Andre Onana and Amad - but there was no like on social media from Hojlund.

United legend Paul Scholes vented his frustration at Dalot's decision making, slamming the Portuguese. "It has been comfortable for United, an easy half of football," he told TNT Sports. "They should be ahead, Dalot should have squared it to Hojlund. They have dangerous players but haven't been a threat.

"The frustrating thing is we watched them practice that. For Dalot not to see it is criminal. He has made a good run, you are a right back, for any right back in world football to not see that is criminal."
