Mateta‘on Manchester United radar’in striker search

Crystal Palace forward Jean-Phillipe Mateta is ‘on Manchester United’s radar’ ahead of the summer transfer window.

Manchester United are desperate to bring in a centre-forward in the summer with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee having struggled for goals this season.

Hojlund has netted just twice in the Premier League and is currently on a run of 19 appearances in all competitions without a goal.

United are likely to have to sell before buying in the summer, but have placed a new number nine at the top of their wish list. The Red Devils are keen to bring in a more experienced frontman in order to ease the pressure on Hojlund and Zirkzee.

According to the BBC, Mateta is a player under consideration. The 27-year-old has scored 28 goals in 62 games in the Premier League since the start of last season.

The Frenchman operates in a similar system to Ruben Amorim’s at Palace and will have two years remaining on his contract at Selhurst Park in the summer.

He is currently sidelined after having 25 stitches in a head injury sustained against Millwall in the FA Cup last weekend. Mateta was on the receiving end of reckless red card challenge from Liam Roberts, as the Millwall goalkeeper attempted to clear the ball with a flying kick.
