Ruben Amorim makes Mikel Arteta sack claim as he gives verdict on Arsenal manager

Ruben Amorim has endured a tricky first season with Man United

Ruben Amorim claims he will not be given the same time to turn Manchester United around as Mikel Arteta was at Arsenal.

Arteta has been in charge of the Gunners since December 2019 and has been backed by the club throughout that time, despite only winning the FA Cup in the first season he took over.

While Arsenal are second in the Premier League and heading to the Champions League quarter-finals, United are down in 14th place in the table after a miserable run of results.

All United have left to play for this season is the Europa League and Amorim claimed the patience extended to Arteta at Arsenal will not be shown by Sir Jim Ratcliffe towards him at United.

Arteta changed the culture at Arsenal, something Amorim is trying to do at United, but the 40-year-old Portuguese boss reckons he will not be given the time to achieve his goals at Old Trafford.

Amorim, whose struggling United side host Arsenal on Sunday, said: “I don’t feel that. I will not have the time Arteta had. I feel that. It’s a different club.

“I think it’s a different club. I think in that aspect, the way Arteta dealt with that is an inspiration for everybody, but I will not have the time like Arteta had.”

Amorim has been blunt about his future in recent weeks, claiming he is the right man to lead United long-term, but admitting results will ultimately decide his fate.

United have lost five of their last seven league games at Old Trafford and have one eye on Thursday's Europa League last 16 second leg tie against Real Sociedad, which is now more important than the Arsenal game.

Winning the Europa League is United's only chance of securing European football next season, following their FA Cup exit, with the winners going straight into the Champions League.

Amorim added: “We have to recover and be really smart during the game against Arsenal. We have to check the players, they have to sleep. It’s an important moment in our season.”
