Jamie Carragher has told Ruben Amorim who he really needs to worry about at Manchester United ahead of Sunday’s showdown with Arsenal.

Amorim only replaced Erik ten Hag as United’s head coach in November but is already under significant pressure at Old Trafford after a poor start.

United have lost eight of their 16 Premier League games under Amorim to date with his team also eliminated from both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

The only competition United are doing somewhat well in is the Europa League – but many football pundits feel they have no chance of winning it.

United’s next game sees them host Arsenal with former Liverpool defender Carragher warning Amorim exactly who he needs to be worried about.

‘It is the supporters and executives Amorim really needs to worry about,’ football pundit Carragher told The Telegraph. ‘They will have a timeframe in mind for United getting back to the top.

‘They may have calculated taking a step back before they can imagine leaping forward. What they would not have imagined is a side which is performing so consistently badly.’

Carragher added: ‘This is the worst United team of my lifetime and the bare minimum that could have been expected after Amorim took charge, that the team would look like they are being coached better than they were under Ten Hag, has not materialised.

‘United’s players have not responded well to his methods. Has a single player looked any better than they were under Ten Hag?’

Amorim declared in January that he was managing one of the worst teams in United’s history, a claim which saw him slammed by various pundits.

This week, Gary Neville admitted he had been left concerned over his former club’s lack of progress since Amorim arrived in Manchester.

‘I’m still watching every team that comes to Old Trafford look like they’ve got more of an idea both on and off the ball,’ Neville said.

‘I went as a fan [for the FA Cup home defeat to Fulham on Sunday] and it was actually sad being in the stadium. It was really sad because the fans are despondent, they’re down in the dumps.

‘It’s a real struggle for the club and the fans right now, a real struggle. The performance was dreary, the team are going through a really bad time.’

Bookmakers Sky Bet are currently offering odds of 14/1 for Amorim to be the next Premier League manger to be sacked this season.

Gary Lineker, though, believes some of the blame for United’s current malaise should lie with legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
