New York Giants rumors suggest Aaron Rodgers addition could be imminent

The New York Giants were tied heavily in NFL rumors to a Matthew Stafford trade, reportedly even feeling confident they would acquire the Pro Bowl quarterback. With Stafford staying with the Los Angeles Rams, it appears Aaron Rodgers might be the Giants starting quarterback in 2025.

The New York Jets announced in early February that they are moving on from Rodgers this offseason. While he hasn’t officially been released yet, the club is expected to officially cut ties with him using a post-June 1 release designation. Once that happens, he could still be making half his starts at MetLife Stadium in 2025.

During an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, Giants’ reporter Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com said that the team is “pretty significantly down a road” with Rodgers to a point where he could join the team before the start of the league year.

“From my understanding right now… they are pretty significantly down a road where they are negotiating to the point where, if Rodgers ends up a Giant before the start of the league year, it would not be a shock to people in this area and at the Meadowland.”

Many around the league have expected the Giants front office to be very aggressive this offseason in addressing the quarterback position. Both head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen are on the hot seat in 2025, putting pressure on the organization to find a quality starter and a long-term franchise quarterback.

Until now, the majority of NFL rumors have suggested that an aggressive approach would result in trading up for the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. However, it’s also very possible that New York both trades up for Cam Ward and signs a veteran like Rodgers or Russell Wilson to be a bridge starter in 2025.

“”My understanding is, yes, they have talked about what it would take to get Aaron [to the Giants]. Yeah, I think from a football fit, this is something that they’re seriously considering.”

Rodgers would certainly provide stability at the quarterback position, but he also might insist on the team signing Davante Adams. As the Jets can attest to, that came at the expense of targets for their young building block at wide receiver (Garrett Wilson) and the same could happen to Malik Nabers. However, with Daboll and Schoen fighting for job security, the focus on a win-now move might be the Giants’ focus.
