Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has suggested that Chido Obi has a good chance of playing against Arsenal amidst his side's injury crisis.
United have been struggling for goals all season and now down to their bare bones those issues have only intensified. In a bid to add strength to their squad, Amorim chose to call-up 17-year-old Obi to his first-team squad.
The Danish centre-forward was on the books with the Gunners until the summer when he chose to leave the Emirates Stadium in the hope of finding more immediate first-team football. Obi may not have been thrust straight into the spotlight so soon but having bagged 12 goals in nine appearances for the academy, he could not be overlooked any longer.
He has so far made three appearances for the first-team, two of which came in the Premier League. Last Sunday, the striker was a bigger threat than Rasmus Hojlund when he came on to lead the line in the FA Cup.
Obi missed out on the squad to face Real Sociedad on Thursday after not being registered but he is eligible to feature against Mikel Arteta's men in the Premier League. When asked if the striker could start ahead of his fellow countryman, Amorim replied: "Everybody can start [against Arsenal].
"If they are training tomorrow, if they played today, they can be ready and Chido is on the list so he can play." Reflecting more closely on the upcoming match with the Gunners, Amorim was in pessimistic mood.
"We need to survive Sunday," he added. "The team was so tired in the last 20 minutes and we have to prepare for Sunday and then this important game for our season on Thursday."
Arsenal head into the match against United full of confidence after thrashing PSV Eindhoven 7-1 in the Champions League on Tuesday night. The Gunners are looking for a measure of revenge over their opponents after the Reds knocked the North London club out of the FA Cup back in January.
