Jack Grealish has been in the news again this week for events away from a football pitch. The Manchester City star started in the FA Cup against Plymouth on Saturday in his first appearance since picking up an injury in the first leg of the Champions League play-off defeat to Real Madrid.
And on the Sunday he was snapped at a number of pubs and clubs in the north-east as the whole City team enjoyed two days off. Grealish was praised by some for his generosity in one of the venues where he treated locals to drinks on him, although some supporters were not impressed by his behaviour after another difficult season with Pep Guardiola.
The manager was asked about Grealish in his press conference ahead of their game with Nottingham Forest, and gave a predictably short response.
"He's so famous," he said. "People follow him. Nothing to comment."
Guardiola is used to fielding questions about the lives of his stars and has a long policy of letting them do whatever they like in their free time as long as it does not affect their football. On top of that, he also makes a habit of keeping such matters in house rather than discussing them publicly in press conferences.
Anyone hoping for a strong answer on Grealish either way for the manager was almost always going to be disappointed, and Guardiola duly obliged ahead of Forest.
City have had a long week of training that they are not used to given they are out of the Champions League squad, and Grealish will be hoping to have done enough to keep his place for Saturday's game. That teamsheet may say more than Guardiola's words.
