Amazon start work on new Arsenal Invincibles documentary

Amazon have started work on a new documentary telling the remarkable story of Arsenal's 2003/04 "Invincibles" campaign, according to the latest reports.

Following the success of the streaming platform "All or Nothing: Arsenal" series which offered a behind-the-scenes look at the club under Mikel Arteta, Amazon is shifting its focus back more than 20 years ago to look at the legendary side that wrote its name in the Premier League history books.

Arsène Wenger's team became the first and remain to this day, the only side to go unbeaten in an entire Premier League campaign.

Though the exact details of the show still are still to be ironed out, The Telegraph has reported that work on the show has already begun, adding that the show will aim to spark a debate if the fete will ever be achieved again.

Former Gunners' duo David Dein and Arsene Wenger are reportedly working on the project, in an interview with The Times the former revealed: "I am working on a big project right now, trying to get the band back together to make a documentary around the Invincibles.

"It’s never been done and we’re trying to get 28 players and 12 backroom staff together. They are spread all over the world, so it’s tough. Twenty-one years ago and no one’s done it since. After ten games this season, nobody had a chance of an Invincibles season. So that story must be told, not just for Arsenal fans but for the world. Arsène Wenger is behind it."

The former Arsenal co-owner revealed that a production company has been chosen with Wenger, Lehmann, Edu, Gilberto Silva, Martin Keown and Sol Campbell all making an appearance. He also revealed that the filming is taking place in the coming months with the hopes of releasing the programme next year.

It's not the first time the extraordinary season has become the focus of a documentary, with the club itself releasing an hour-long programme to look back at the Invincibles 20 years on from their memorable feat It is not yet known how long the programme will be but it is thought to be over several parts.

Amazon has been at the heart of a growing number of football documentaries, with the four-part "Doubters to Believers Liverpool FC: Klopp's Era" released in recent weeks and a three-part programme also airing looking at the 1998-99 treble-winning Man United side.

Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Vieira are just some of the iconic names who graced the pitch in a side that won 26 games and suffered no losses. However, the former Gunner's goalkeeper, Jens Lehmann, may have a particularly active role to play in the new programme after the German bought the branding right to the Invincibles.

The keeper left the club somewhat unaware when he bought the rights for £30,000, now setting up a company which aims to support the players from the squad. He is thought to have had permission from his teammates and former manager Wenger with the intention to donate any profits made from the venture to charity.
