'That's for certain' - Jeffrey Schlupp names Celtic moment that's 'still sore'

Jeffrey Schlupp has been a breath of fresh air since he arrived at Celtic.

The defender has played well for the club since he joined on loan on deadline day and he has been able to, at times, keep Greg Taylor out of the starting lineup.

Schlupp signed for Celtic to no fanfare and has quietly impressed in his eight matches so far where he has chipped in with a goal and an assist for the Hoops.

The 32-year-old has enjoyed Glasgow but he does have one disappointment from his stint and that was back in February when Celtic lost 2-1 away to Hibs in Scottish Premiership action.

Josh Campbell hit a double before Daizen Maeda reduced the deficit before VAR chalked off a legitimate goal which annoyed Brendan Rodgers who said it was “guess work” from the officials.

Jeffrey Schlupp says Celtic’s Hibs loss is ‘still sore’

Ironically that was an afternoon where Schlupp did not start for the club but it remains an annoyance to the Ghana international who is desperate to help put it right this weekend in the Scottish Cup.

“Cup games are always great, a great occasion and obviously we’re gonna be looking to win the game. That’s for certain,” he told Celtic TV in the build-up.

“Hibs have been on a great run, they beat us a couple of weeks ago which is still sore and that’s something we’re gonna want to put right straight away.

“What a great occasion obviously for the fans it’s gonna be a big one and for us too we want to get through to the semi-final, and that’s gonna be our mission.”

Schlupp has played midfield during his career with the likes of Palace and Leicester City but he has always been happy doing his bit wherever it takes for any given club.

So it was no surprise to see him pop up with his first goal for Celts in a 5-2 win over St Mirren.

What Schlupp said about scoring his first Celtic goal

It was a perfect effort which nestled into the back of the net via the post and Schlupp admitted he was chuffed to score his first goal for the league leaders.

More importantly, he was pleased to do his part in a victory which added another three points to the tally.

“It’s always nice to get involved with goals and assists so I play to win, if I can help in any way I’ll do that.

“What better way to do it than scoring a goal. So it was really nice moment for me, scoring my first goal for Celtic was something I would’ve loved to achieve when I got here.

“I managed to do that so it was a great feeling and it was good to help the team get three points.”
