Packers WR Bo Melton is back for 2025

It was previously reported that the Green Bay Packers had extended tenders to four of their six exclusive rights free agents this offseason. Now, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero claims that Packers receiver Bo Melton received his tender this offseason, too. This means that the only Green Bay ERFA who hasn’t reportedly been tendered is defensive end Aaron Mosby.

An ERFA is a player who is technically a free agent on paper but hasn’t accrued at least three seasons of NFL service. If a free agent has fewer than three seasons of service, then the team he played for the previous year is allowed to tender him for the league minimum salary. This salary number is non-guaranteed.

So, besides carrying the player on the offseason 90-man roster, there’s no downside for tendering every ERFA you have access to. Even though it hasn’t been reported that the team has tendered Mosby, the expectation is that the Packers either have tendered him already or they will soon.

Melton was originally drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the seventh round of the 2022 draft but was waived at cutdowns and re-signed to the Seahawks’ practice squad that year. The Packers poached him off of the practice squad in December of 2022, without Melton ever having played a game for Seattle. Because Melton wasn’t on the 53-man roster for more than six weeks as a rookie, he did not receive an accused season in 2022.

He did suit up in the regular season for the Packers in both 2023 and 2024, though, playing in 22 games and even making a lone start back in 2023. He’s seldom used on special teams as a non-returner, mostly bringing value to Green Bay’s offense with his 4.34-second 40-yard dash speed. Despite being undersized at 5’11” and 189 pounds, the Packers have found a role for him, though it is difficult for their running game to get going when both he and Jayden Reed (5’11”, 187 pounds) are on the field together.

Even with Christian Watson expected to miss the first few months of the regular season in 2025, five healthy Packers receivers are set to return from last year’s 53-man roster: Reed, Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks, Melton and Malik Heath. Melton, Heath and potential offseason additions, either in free agency or the draft, should be battling for one or two roster spots by the time training camp rolls around next summer.
