NEWS – I have friends and family members who are struggling with macular degeneration. It’s a condition that strikes those who are 50 or over and affects your central vision – you can’t see things directly in front of you. There’s no cure. You can only strive to slow its progress. I didn’t realize how much I rely on my vision to accomplish everyday tasks until I started helping those struggling with this. That’s when I discovered the Eschenback Visolux Digital XL FHD at a low-vision specialist’s office while helping my family member who is dealing with macular degeneration. One of the employees showed it to us and showed us what it can do.
eschenbach visolux digital xl fhd 02It can magnify newsprint-sized text (2x – 22x) on its 12″ non-reflective 1920 x 1080-resolution touchscreen LCD (16:9 widescreen format). It has adjustable LEDs (three brightness levels) and a lithium-ion battery that will last for 2.5 hours and recharge in 4.5 hours.
You can use buttons (Contrast, Camera, Power, Decrease magnification, Increase magnification) or the touchscreen display to control the device. The employee demonstrating the Visolux Digital XL also showed us the different color contrast options. I like the white letters on a black background. The Dynamic Line Scrolling (DLS) feature allows the user to scroll magnified text horizontally and vertically without moving the device. You can even capture and store images on the removable 8GB SD card (provided with the device). It also has HDMI and USB ports to attach to a computer or TV.
