Liverpool have entered the race for top Arsenal target Benjamin Sesko and they certainly pose the most credible threat to the Gunners.

The RB Leipzig striker remains one of Europe's most in-demand centre-forward commodities. It has been a mixed season for Sesko in terms of his performances and consistency, but it is hard to argue with a return of 17 goals and five assists.

The 21-year-old has been Arsenal's top target for the No.9 position since last summer when he decided to snub them in favour of extending his contract at Leipzig.

It was recently revealed, and confirmed by FootballTransfers, that his new deal contains a formal release clause that currently stands at €70 million but is expected to rise to €80m by the end of the season.

Arsenal were the favourites to sign him last year as Sesko was sold on their project before opting to continue his development in Germany. This is still the case, but Liverpool have now emerged as credible challengers.

Liverpool the new Sesko favourites?

At least that is according to GIVEMESPORT, which reports that the Reds have now barged into the race to sign Sesko. Chelsea, Man Utd and Tottenham are also credited with an interest.

Chelsea and Man Utd were already keen on Sesko last summer, but as mentioned, he chose Arsenal as his preferred destination. That stance has not changed, but of course, this decision was made at a time when Liverpool were not yet courting him.

Out of all of his suitors, it is clear that the Anfield club now pose the most serious threat to Arsenal for the striker. Liverpool are the champions-in-waiting and will have a clear opening for a No.9 signing in the summer.

Darwin Nunez is likely to leave Merseyside in the upcoming window after already being close to departing in January. The Uruguay international does not have a future under Arne Slot and is expected to be offloaded before long.

As previously revealed by FootballTransfers, Liverpool are Alexander Isak's most realistic destination should he opt to leave Newcastle in the summer. However, the Magpies want to keep him and he is open to extending his contract if granted a release clause.

A summer transfer would require an outlay well in excess of €100m, making Sesko a much more attainable option even at a whopping cost of €70m-€80m.
