Man Utd are hoping to boost their squad with three marquee additions this summer
Manchester United are expected to be one of the busiest teams in terms of incoming and outgoings this summer as Ruben Amorim and his recruitment team hone on the areas that have let their team down dearly this season.
United are the most successful team in Premier League history with 13 titles since 1992 but at this moment they are a far cry from even competing for European qualification as they face up to the prospect of potentially finishing in their lowest league position since the 1989/90 season.
The January transfer window was a fairly subdued one for United with just one first team star in Patrick Dorgu arriving for a reported £29m from Lecce, but work is already going on behind the scenes to ensure that Amorim has the required pieces for fit his favoured 3-4-2-1 formation which worked in tandem during his successful four-year stint in the Portuguese capital at Sporting CP.
With that in mind, we take a look at the three names at the top of the Red Devils’ wishlist as they look to kickstart the Amorim revolution.
Man Utd ‘make contact’ with Brazil international midfielder
Manchester United have signalled an interest in Brazilian international midfielder Ederson from Italian title hopefuls Atalanta. Caught Offside reports that United are huge fans of the 25-year-old midfielder who has enjoyed an impressive three-year stint with the Bergamo based outfit since arriving from Salernitana in 2022.
The former Corinthians star has racked up 129 appearances for Atalanta and has helped Gian Piero Gasperini’s side establish themselves as European regulars with a string of consistent performances at the heart of the midfield.
Ederson formed part of the team which lifted the Europa League against the odds by ending Bayer Leverkusen’s invincible season across all competitions while also reaching the Coppa Italia final where they were defeated by Juventus.
He is a tough-tackling midfielder, blessed with immense stamina, strength and excellent passing ability. Ederson has also proven he can chip in with goals when needed and has scored 12 times across all competitions, including once in this year’s Champions League in a thrilling 2-2 draw with Barcelona.
He is reportedly valued at around 60m euros (£50m) and is the subject of interest from other English heavyweights such as Manchester City and Liverpool.
Man Utd join the race to sign Arsenal and Newcastle United targets
Ruben Amorim is in desperate need of a striker to increase his team’s output after underwhelming campaign for both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee who have both failed to build on the hype which surrounded them before their moves to English football.
The pair between them have managed five Premier League goals and though Hojlund has shown more promise in Europe it is clear both fall below the required demands at Old Trafford at present. As such, Amorim in a bid to boost his team’s chances of success, has set his sights on Arsenal-linked striker Benjamin Sesko.
Caught Offside reports that United are very keen to land the Slovenian international, with 10 goals in 24 league appearances this season, but adds that the club will need to generate serious funds from player sales before putting forward a serious offer.
Sky Sports reports Sesko has a release clause in his contract which can be activated this summer. Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham - along with United- have all been credited with an interest in the report. It is understood to be a variable clause tied to appearances, goals and assists for RB Leipzig. The clause will start at around £49.5m but could go above £66m if certain conditions are met. It is understood the clause is currently £62m.
Elsewhere, United are also thought to be on the hunt for a goalkeeper after an underwhelming second term for ex-Inter Milan shot-stopper Andre Onana. The Cameroonian international arrived for £50m which at the time made him the third most expensive goalie in history, but in recent weeks he has come under scrutiny for a series of errors.
The Red Devils are believed to be impressed with the form of Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford, who in the Championship has kept a remarkable 25 clean sheets in 35 games - including 10 in a row during 2025.
He formed part of England’s Under-21 winning Euros team in 2023 and became the first goalkeeper in history to win the tournament without conceding a goal while notably saving a last minute penalty in the final.
The 22-year-old’s incredible form has attracted interest from Newcastle United, who Fabrizio Romano claims have already agreed personal terms with the player. However, with no transfer fee yet agreed, United could still jump in and hijack the deal in the summer.
