It does not take a diehard NBA fan to know that Golden State Warriors star Draymond Greencan be a bit of bozo. After all, Green punched former teammate Jordan Poole in the face during a practice and has been thrown out of several games, hurting his team in the process, because he could not control his emotions. But Green’s latest display of buffoonery is perhaps his worst yet.
On a recent episode of his podcast, The Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis, Green spoke about New York Knicks big man Karl-Anthony Towns missing a recent game between the Warriors and Knicks because he did not want to play against former teammate Jimmy Butler. The implication was that Towns, for some reason, was fearful of Butler.
In reality, it turns out that Towns was not in New York for the game because he was instead attending the funeral of a friend, Sarah Holtzman, who passed away after a length battle with breast cancer.
Now, a normal human being would immediately apologize to Towns and show remorse not only for his loss, but also for downplaying the situation and attacking his character. Green, however, is not a normal human being and seemingly lacks any season of decency or empathy. So instead, he issued a half-hearted apology while exonerating himself for what he previously said.
Q “You seen reaction to your KAT comments [that he ducked game v Warriors]? Were you aware of circumstances?”
Draymond “No”
Q “He was at funeral for family friend”

“Oh, man. That’s unfortunate. I’m sorry to hear that. That sucks. But my comments that I made, was that ‘people I heard was this. And that’s what I heard.’ So I do send my well wishes to him and his family,” Green said when informed of the circumstances of Towns’ absence. “You know, none of us. It’s inevitable. We all experience death in one way or another, and we’ll all experience it in the same way one day. So it’s unfortunate. You never wish that on anybody.
“But the Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis must go on. So I definitely wish them well and wish their family well. And I mean it. You know, we all go through that. And it’s never easy for anyone. But the Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis will go on.”
Yes, Draymond, that is the important part here, your podcast. Even Green’s tone when answering the question showed a complete lack of care.
Nobody is asking he and Towns to be best friends. He doesn’t have to weep for him. But the dismissive nature which he casts aside Towns’ legitimate tragedy is disgusting. It’s embarrassing and it’s a stain on his already dubious legacy.
