NFL Draft history is littered with late-round steals and even undrafted gems. This year's draft class is not considered strong at wide receiver. However, there is some potential finds in the later rounds.
The University of Pittsburgh football program has not exactly been a hotbed of NFL talent in recent seasons. There are a few Panthers prospects who could be Day 3 finds this year for a team.
Let's have a closer look at one such Pitt Panther prospect.
Konata Mumpfield, WR (Pitt)

After graduating from Dacula High School in Georgia, Mumpfield committed to the University of Akron. As a freshman in 2021, he had 63 receptions for 751 yards and 8 touchdowns to lead the Zips in all three categories.
Mumpfield transferred to Pitt for the 2022 campaign. He scored once and his 58 catches for 551 yards were both second on the team. In 2023, Mumpfield's 44 receptions led the Panthers. His 576 receiving yards and five touchdowns were second only to current New Orleans Saints wideout Bub Means.
Mumpfield's 813 receiving yards led the Panthers this past season. His 52 catches tied RB Desmond Reid for the team lead as he also scored five times. Mumpfield capped off his three-year career at Pitt with 154 receptions for 1,940 yards and 11 touchdowns despite consistently subpar quarterback play.
Listed at 5'11" and 186-Lbs., Mumpfield may have some issues with the bigger press corners at the NFL level. His 4.59 40-time at the NFL Scouting Combine suggest that he also may not be able to simply outrun many defensive backs.
To stick on an NFL roster, Mumpfield will need to show much more route discipline than he did in college. He'll also need much better acceleration out of his breaks to get separation for his quarterback.
To be fair, he wasn't asked to run much of a route tree at Pitt. Therefore, he must also be able to prove that he can handle such assignments in the NFL.
If he can improve his route precision, Mumpfield has the short-area quickness to be an intermediate weapon. His play tape shows more athleticism than what he displayed during drills at the Scouting Combine.

Mumpfield has the ability to adjust very well to off-target throws. His mid-air body control is outstanding. The same can be said of his body control on sideline routes. Despite the lack of timed speed, he was rarely caught from behind by opponents.
After the catch, Mumpfield is a very elusive and creative runner in the open field. This makes him a YAC threat and could possibly allow him to earn a roster spot as a punt returner. He also shows good focus in traffic and the willingness to make plays over the middle.
Mumpfield is projected as a late Day 3 pick or undrafted signing. His athletic measurables and physical stature won't set him apart from other prospects. However, his tape shows a player that can both move the chains and be an underrated big-play threat.
Konata Mumpfield could provide solid depth as a fourth or fifth receiver with the upside of a consistent slot target or number three wideout.
