Arne Slot reveals the reason behind unhappy Mo Salah after PSG game

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has revealed the reason behind Mo Salah feeling unhappy after he came off during the Reds’ UEFA Champions League game against Paris Saint-Germain.

The Egypt international is having his best season since he moved to Liverpool in the summer of 2017, directly contributing to 52 goals in 40 games played. The Reds’ No. 11 has scored 30 goals and added 22 assists in that time.

Arne Slot: "I don't think Mo Salah was happy that I took him off, looking at his body language. He can always score a goal, this is why I rarely take him off."

"His behaviour was fine, he shook hands, but he probably felt if we get a chance then he would score." pic.twitter.com/Ghy0veLz3V

Liverpool triumphed over PSG in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie thanks to a late goal from Harvey Elliott, and a heroic goalkeeping performance from Alisson between the sticks.

Mo Salah, like most of his teammates, struggled against PSG, in a match that was almost entirely dominated by the French side.

Slot explains why Salah was left unhappy after PSG clash

Arne Slot disclosed that Mohamed Salah was unhappy after being substituted during Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday. Harvey Elliott came on for Salah in the 86th minute of the encounter.

Although Elliott went on to score the decisive goal in the clash less than a minute after coming on, Arne Slot has acknowledged that Salah was frustrated at being substituted.

According to AnythingLFC in a post on X, Slot said, “I don’t think Mo Salah was happy that I took him off, looking at his body language. He can always score a goal, this is why I rarely take him off.”

However, Slot insisted that Salah’s reaction to being substituted was completely normal and emphasized that both of them are on good terms despite the incident.

“His behaviour was fine, he shook hands, but he probably felt if we get a chance then he would score.”

He added, “People say good sub as Harvey scored but Mo would tell me he would have scored that too! A normal reaction to being taken off.”

The manager explained that all his players show great character, adding that the team will need that when they go toe-to-toe with bottom placed Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday.
