Seahawks Predicted to Replace Geno Smith with 7,800-Yard Passer in NFL Mock Draft

Quarterback Geno Smith revitalized his career with the Seattle Seahawks after an impressive 2021 that earned him his first career Pro Bowl and a three-year $75 million extension.

Now, though, that means he's entering 2025 with just one more season under contract, and considering he's 34 years old, it's unclear if another deal will happen.

That's why, in an NFL mock draft, Reese Decker of Pro Football & Sports Network predicts the Seahawks will draft quarterback Tyler Shough with the No. 50 pick.

"If Tyler Shough were 22 years old and didn't have an extensive injury history, he'd be a top-five prospect," he wrote. "Mechanically clean and efficient, Shough has the arm strength to make every throw on the field. He's mobile enough to be dangerous outside the pocket and has proven success across multiple programs and schemes."

During his collegiate career, which started in 2018, Shough has completed 599 of 951 passes for 7,820 yards, 59 touchdowns, 23 interceptions, and a 147.7 passing efficiency rating.

He also bounced around between several different programs, originally starting with the Oregon Ducks until transferring to Texas Tech in 2021, spending three years with the Raiders, and finishing with Louisville in 2024.

Shough is easily coming off his best season, though, completing 244-of-389 passes for 3,195 yards, 23 touchdowns, six interceptions, and a 148.1 passing efficiency rating.

Of course, if this scenario did become a reality, Shough could have a whole year to sit behind Smith to better understand the Seahawks' offense and the NFL's playing speed, which could help with development.
