Significant progress made at Spotify Camp Nou as Barcelona await return

The new Spotify Camp Nou is steadily taking shape. Although there is still a long way to go before the project is fully completed and Barcelona can return to their iconic home, recent developments mark significant progress in the stadium’s construction.

Indeed, as reported by SPORT, in the latest update provided by the club, it has been confirmed that work on the playing surface is advancing, with preparations underway for the installation of the pitch.

Key steps already completed include the installation of ventilation systems to keep the grass cool and maintain root health and drainage systems to efficiently remove rainwater from the pitch.

Additionally, heating and cooling systems for the future playing surface are currently being installed.

Barcelona expect the new pitch to be laid between April and May, which will bring a fresh new look to the stadium.

Nearly 39,000 seats already installed

Another major milestone in the Camp Nou renovation project is the installation of almost 39,000 seats, with construction efforts currently focused on finalising the first and second tiers, as well as the external access areas.

Meanwhile, work on the third tier is progressing on schedule, with the structure of the VIP rings now fully visible.

The completion of the third tier is a crucial factor in determining when Barcelona and their fans can return to the stadium.

For safety and structural reasons, this section must be fully completed before reopening the venue.

As things stand, a return to Spotify Camp Nou is unlikely to take place at least until October – almost a year delay compared to Barcelona’s initial plans of moving back to their stadium towards the end of 2024.
