Series Preview: Jaguars Travel to Ruston to Face Lousiana Tech.

RUSTON, La. - South Alabama looks to string success together coming off back-to-back wins to take the series over Jacksonville in a road test and first trip out of the state.

The series opener takes place Friday, March 7 at 4 p.m., followed by Saturday's contest at Noon, and the series finale on Sunday at 1 p.m., with all games sceduled to air on ESPN+ and Sports Talk 99.5.

SERIES HISTORY

South Alabama owns the historical record over the Bulldogs, with a 24-9 record against them dating back to the first meeting in 1974. The Jags and Bulldogs face off for the first time in 24 years, not sharing the diamond together since 2001. South Alabama and Louisiana Tech were conference mates together from 1991-2001 but have not met since splitting.

The last meetings took place in a regular season series in Ruston in, then meeting twice in the Sun Belt Conference Championship in Lafayette. The Jags took the regular season series, splitting a Saturday doubleheader (2-3 12-inning loss, then 10-6 7-inning win) and taking Sunday's game, 2-1. The Jags defeated the Bulldogs in Lafayette 18-5, then won the semifinal and eliminated La Tech from the 2001 tournament en route to the 2001 Sun Belt title. South looks to continue the four-game win streak against La Tech this weekend.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS

After sweeping Maine in a four-game opening weekend, La Tech went 1-2 at Southern Miss, dropped a midweek against Lamar, then went 1-2 against Memphis. Coming into this weekend, the Bulldogs run-ruled Nicholls State in both legs of a midweek series, 19-0, then 10-0. La Tech currently leads C-USA in walks and ranks second nationally in double plays turned (15).

JAGS ON THE ROAD

South Alabama will play 24 of their 53 games on the road, matching their total from last season, with one neutral site currently scheduled against Auburn. The Jags are no stranger to challenges on the road, with this season as no exception. South will face familiar foe Alabama in Tuscaloosa, as well as Alabama State in Montgomery along with the series against UAB. The Jags will also make their way to Louisiana four times, with midweek matchups against Southeastern Louisiana and New Orleans, a weekend trip to face Louisiana Tech as the final non-conference series, and the final week of the season playing at ULM.

FINISH STRONG

After a Friday night loss, the Jaguar offense exploded, scoring the most runs in a game since 2023 (2/18, 26) in the 15-1 run-rule over Jacksonville. South returned the next day to win the rubber match, 10-5 and averaged 7.8 runs per game over the five games played between 2/25-3-2.
