Cleveland Browns’ Myles Garrett Saga Takes Ugliest Turn Yet

Myles Garrett has made it clear that he has no desire to play another down, formally requesting a trade from the Cleveland Browns, but general manager Andrew Berry–and apparently owner Jimmy Haslam have other ideas.

The former NFL Defensive Player of The Year with 102.5 career sacks says he hopes to play for a team capable of contending for Super Bowls. However, Berry made it clear during the NFL Combine that the Browns aren’t interested in trading Garrett.

“I wouldn’t really touch on any conversations that I’ve had with other teams, just respectfully,” Berry told reporters in Indianapolis. “I don’t think that’s appropriate, just for current and future business. But it’s irrelevant to this situation because we’re not interested in moving Myles.

“We don’t have interest in trading Myles. He’s a big part of our team.”

However, the situation seems to have devolved even further.

According to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero, Haslam has turned down Garrett’s request for a meeting to discuss his future, and any potential trade.

Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com adds that Haslam told Garrett he needs to speak with General Manager Andrew Berry instead, as he’s in charge of those matters for the team.

While Haslam may be correct in terms of Cleveland’s power structure, Garrett is one of the premier players in the past 25 years, at least, to wear a Browns’ uniform and not even humoring his request to sit down and discuss his trade request feels like a sign of disrespect towards one of the franchise’s pillars and locker room leaders.

It remains to be seen whether Berry and the Browns will eventually have a change of heart and trade Garrett to the highest bidder, but for the time being, there doesn’t seem to be much goodwill between these two sides.
